Author Biography
The author earned B.A. and J.D. degrees at the University of Chicago. She directed the National Study Commission on Defense Services, which developed national standards for public defender and appointed counsel systems. She also served as a public defender and private criminal defense lawyer, and as an Assistant Illinois Attorney General. As an adjunct professor, she taught a variety of law school and college classes on criminal justice. As a prelude to writing this book, she wrote a monthly subscription publication for law enforcement officers designed to inform them about evolving court mandates governing police-citizen interactions and the individual rights of citizens. Her published work includes numerous articles on criminal justice and several books, including Guide to Establishing a Defender System.
