Author Biography
Rudy D. Liporada is a University of the Philippines Alumni with a Major in Economics, Minor in Sociology, and Cognate in Political Science. A freelance journalist and photojournalist, he contributed articles and photos to the Baguio Gold Ore, Midland Courier, Panorama, Filipinas Magazine, and the Northern Dispatch. With Danny Quinto, they formed the Double Exposures which contributed photos to several publications. They also held photo exhibits. While editor of the Kapitbahay in Oxnard, California, Rudy was also a stringer for the Ventura County Star. He also has a published novel, The Unholy Allied Mountains. The novel depicts an unholy alliance between Muslim extremists and Philippine communists to defeat local lackey of imperialists in the Cordillera Mountains in the Philippines. He also wrote A Russian Poker, depicting that life in the Philippines could be like poker hands where luck works over skill. He had a four year stint as a lecturer in Feature Writing, Advertising, and Photography in Zambia, Africa. In California, he served as Deputy Director of the Filipino American Council of Ventura County; Board Vice-Chair of the Mabuhay Alliance based in San Diego; and Board Member, as president of the Baguio Association of San Diego, of the Council of Philippine-American Organization of San Diego. While residing in Oxnard, California, he held a four-year tenure as Planning Commissioner for the City. Though, he grew up in Baguio City, Philippines, his father, Dioscoro, is from Leyte and his mother, Rosario is from Cebu. Rudy and his only brother, Cesar, love to profess that they are Visayan by blood but Igorot in culture and proud of it. Rudy's elementary and high-school education was with Belgian nuns and priests of the CICM order (known also as the Congregation of the Immaculate Heart of Mary) at the St. Louis University school complex. Two years of his high school was with the CICM minor seminary. Married to Aurea, nee Olosan, they have four sons and a daughter. As of 2010, they have ten grandchildren - two from Sony Engineer Paul with Dhoreen; four from Amgen BioChemist Jose with April; one from Karl (diseased) with Malisa; and three from Seabees Rudy Julius with Mhi.
