Are we living in a transnational world? The 900 percent rise in the use of "transnationalism" in publications since 1995 testifies to a defining phenomenon. Stefan Rinke is a professor of history at the Institute for Latin American Studies and the Friedrich Meinecke Institute at the Freie Universität Berlin.

Núria Vilanova is an associate professor of Latin American studies and the associate dean of undergraduate studies in the College of Arts and Sciences at American University.
