by Raul Chao (Author)
Liberation Theology was a prominent Catholic movement from the 1960s to the end of the century, well-known in Christian circles in Latin American and other Third World countries. Two Popes, John Paul II (1978-2005) and the Benedict XVI (2005-2013), and many scholars have proclaimed many times that its days were over. Yet, despite repression from the Vatican and changes in the political climate of many developing countries, and thanks to the open support of Pope Francis (2013-present), Liberation Theology continues to have an enduring relevance in the Third World. Its social, political, and religious impetus are still very present as a part of the enduring and lasting Christian initiative for social justice. This book summarizes the history, propositions, and transcendence of this movement.
