by J. D. Watson (Author)
While many Christians know of A. W. Tozer's great devotional classics, few recognize that "Tozer, decades ago, faced and pointedly addressed most of the same issues that are diluting Christianity and undermining the Church today" (from the Introduction). Originally penned in 1999, this book is even more applicable today than then. Citing more than 200 extensive and carefully documented Tozer quotations, the author reviews and analyzes Tozer's thought concerning many contemporary trends, including: improper worship, lack of spirituality, no-lordship teaching, pragmatic evangelism, pulpit ministry, revival, tolerance, unity, and many others. The author prays that Tozer's "prophetic voice" will awaken today's Church to the present danger and hopes this book "will serve to remind us not only of what Tozer said but that what he said was true." ABOUT THE AUTHOR: Dr. J. D. Watson entered the ministry in 1974 and has served in several capacities, including 30 years in the pastorate. Committed to exposition, he continues pastoring, writing, and speaking at Bible Conferences.
Author Biography
DR. J. D. "Doc" Watson (ThD, DRE) entered the ministry in 1974, serving in several capacities including 29 years in the pastorate, 26 of which at Grace Bible Church in Meeker, Colorado. He also speaks at Bible Conferences and other venues. In addition to his other published books, he continues to write and edit the monthly publication Truth on Tough Texts, on which both the present book and its predecessor are based. His driving passion is the exposition of the Word of God as the sole and sufficient authority in all matters. This is demonstrated in no better way than in his 3-1/2 year (500,000 word) expo-sition of the Epistle to the Ephesians, which he hopes to publish in 2014. Dr. Watson also serves on the board of On Target Ministry (www.ontargetministry.org), which is committed to international educa-tion. He has had the opportunity to serve overseas in this capacity by teach-ing at the Haiti Bible Institute, which was founded by OTM in 2009. He likewise serves on the board of the Institute for Biblical Textual Studies, which is committed to defending the Traditional Text of the New Testa-ment. Dr. Watson has also contributed articles to other publications, includ-ing a weekly column in his local newspaper based upon his pulpit ministry. He also maintains three blogs: * Expositing Ephesians: The Christian's Wealth and Walk (http: //expositingephesians.blogspot.com). * Tas Membranas (http: //tas-membranas.blogspot.com/), which is dedicated to book reviews. * John Calvin for Today, a devotional site based upon Calvin's expositions (http: //johncalvinfortoday.blogspot.com/) The other loves of his life are his wife, Debbie (since 1974), his son, Paul (since 1988), his church family (since 1986), and his favorite hobby, golf (since 1968).
