Author Biography
Catherine Mahony, a published writer in multiple genres, studied professional writing at Kutztown University of Pennsylvania and holds Associate degrees in Liberal Arts and Communications from Reading Area Community College. Mahony won RACC's Creative Writing Award for academic excellence in both 2013 and 2014; her first chapbook, Prior Restraints, was published that same year. Her second book In Knots: Motherhood Lost and Found was published by Andy Schon, with art work by Laura Gelsomini. You can read Mahony's award-winning poetry and fiction in Lehigh Valley Vanguard, Agony and Ecstasy: Reflections of Our Lives, Layers of Language, Legacy, and Shoofly. Her creative nonfiction has been published in Rag Queen Periodical. Mahony has facilitated creative writing workshops at Studio B, Boyertown, PA; Pagoda Writer's Group, Reading, PA; Caron Treatment Center, Wernersville, PA; and Berks County Prison, Leesport, PA. She is currently working on establishing her creative writing program, Ebony Bloodletting, which will bring therapeutic writing workshops to the under-served community. Mahony believes writing saved her life. She was diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder and Borderline Personality Disorder at the age of 16 and she is also a recovering heroin addict. By exposing her vulnerabilities through brutally honest writing, Mahony hopes that she can help others who may also be struggling. She currently lives in Southeastern Pennsylvania with her wife and daughter.
