TENNESSEE PETITIONERS, ETC. AND GRAINGER COUNTY TAX LISTS 1800 [1795-1804] Also known as Territory South of Ohio River. This book was assembled from Grainger County Tax Lists 1800 and Territorial Papers of the United States and contains 182 names for the Papers and 247 names for the tax lists. From Territorial Papers of the United States the names mostly seem to be persons appointed to official or military positions, or are members of the Knoxville Convention. Thus, they seem to be the more prominent persons, so, most of the less noteworthy individuals would not be listed. Still, the people listed clarify this early time before Tennessee became a state. The tax lists record the names of those who are taxable and are much more inclusive. They do include important details about the property they held.Tennessee State Motto: Agriculture and Commerce
