by Robert Lewis Dabney (Author)
Its two books in one The Robert Lewis Dabney Collection brings together two of the Southern Presbyterian theologian's writings: The Christian Sabbath and Sensualistic Philosophy. Although written in the nineteenth century, Dabney's topics are relevant today. In The Christian Sabbath, Dabney defends the necessity of a day of rest to both honor God and for societal cohesiveness. In Sensualistic Philosophy, Dabney engages secular philosophers of his day, including Condillac and Comte, as a champion of the Christian worldview. Alacrity Press is proud to reprint these two theological classics within a single volume.
Author Biography
Robert Lewis Dabney was a nineteenth century American pastor and a noted Southern Presbyterian theologian. He was a professor of ecclesiastical history and systematic theology at Union Theological Seminary from 1853 to1869. He later taught at the University of Texas. During the Civil War he served first as a chaplain for the 18th Virginia Infantry and later as chief of staff for Jonathan "Stonewall" Jackson. Though he wrote a number of books on theological and Biblical topics, he might be best remembered for his biography of Jackson.
