Dr.Padmavati was born in Burma and received her M.B.B.S from Rangoon Medical College. She had a brilliant Graduate career. She did her Postgraduation in the U.K(London & Edin), and further specialized in Cardiology in the U.S.A. (Harvard University and Johns Hopkins Hospital) and in Sweden. She is one of the earliest female physicians to establish cardiology in India with her extensive research in heart diseases.
She is a widely published author in both Indian and International journals and books on cardiology. With over forty years of teaching Undergraduates, Postgraduates and Postdoctoral Fellows and over 300 publications, Dr.Padmavati has been a pioneer in Preventive Cardiology. Her work on RHD or Rheumatic Heart Disease in school children is now a model for the rest of the country. She has received many awards including Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Harvard Medical International Award besides many other honours. She continues to be the Chairman of the Board of Directors at the All India Heart Foundation and Chief Consultant in Cardiology, National Heart Institute (NHI). She is happy to see many old patients and students turning up at her clinic and residence.
