by Jay Sargent (Author)
Learn about life and yourself from a dolphin. In this true story written in an intimate journal style, Jay Sargent shares her experiences in the waters off the Turks and Caicos Islands, where JoJo, a wild bottle-nosed dolphin, in an open, surprising, and deeply moving way, befriends her. Sargent's first book JoJo and Me chronicles her first trip to the islands in 1995 when she met JoJo and details how the dolphin and she became fast friends. It may seem merely a fantastic dream, if not for the fact that it is completely true. JoJo introduced Sargent to the water and to his family, friends, and daily life, and from then on she was hooked. In this book, their friendship becomes even more amazing as JoJo starts to introduce her to other dolphins in particular mothers and calves. With JoJo's help, Sargent is accepted into and is able to swim with pods of wild dolphins. Mother dolphins even let Sargent "babysit" their calves while they are fishing. What can a dolphin teach a human being? Plenty. Inside the pages of the author's deeply personal journal, the true and cross-barrier values of friendship, love, loyalty, and trust are displayed with a disarming charm and touching honesty. Sargent shows readers how intelligent and social dolphins are, and how important it is for them to remain wild and free from captivity.
