by Barrington Jackson (Author)
Even when the streets are half-deserted, we may still encounter that one person or happenstance that can change our life. That's what simmers underneath each story in the short fiction collection Half Deserted Streets.
Author Barrington Jackson focuses on how people interact when they face the unlikely or uncomfortable. He puts those interactions under a microscope to produce suspenseful short stories that make us question what people are capable of and unearth what lies below our polite exteriors.
Can a nun be a sexually driven serial killer-and if so, will anyone ever believe it? Can a prostitute find salvation? These are just two of the four stories you'll encounter in this intriguing collection.
Jackson is especially fond of writing literary stories that center on relations between different races, religions, and socio-economic classes. And he's particularly adept at creating memorable and believable characters, a skill that transforms even the most unlikely storyline into a surprisingly relatable narrative.
Chance encounters are put in a new light as you journey Half Deserted Streets.
Author Biography
Barrington Jackson, an award winning author, turns to a mystery for his readers to solve. Barrington's awards tug him different directions: from the New York Foundation for his writing and from the National Science Foundation for his studies in mathematics. For now the mathematics is simple: seven ambiguous forms are tethered to the ceiling in a dimly lit room.
As the nephew of the noted author Eulalie Spence, Jackson's work extends the legacy of the Harlem Renaissance, exploring topics such as the relationship between blacks and whites through a contemporary lens.
