by Barbara L. Gingerich Rivas (Editor), Susan Daugherty Navarro (Illustrator), Susan Daugherty Navarro (Author)
In describing this brief history of the Deberry-Navarro family, Susan Daugherty Navarro wrote: "Four generations of a family with the surname Navarro have been aware that they had no relatives by the same name, but at the same time they had little knowledge of exactly how and when the name originated or was assumed. Only one man who actually took part in the name-changing incident survived until the twentieth century and he never told the story so far as the present generation can discover. What follows is a description of how part of a legend was clarified and documented. No attempt is made here to do more than hastily summarize the material."
