Author Biography

Jory Ames writes and lives in Alaska. She has lived throughout the Northwest and taught English at colleges and universities for 18 years. She enjoys her family, writing, reading, music, nature hikes, mountains, dogs, and cats but is not so much a fan of cold Alaskan winters. Jory has been volunteering for humane societies since 1977, particularly focusing on ending pet overpopulation and the killing of healthy, adoptable dogs and cats at animal control shelters. She has published hundreds of poems, short stories, articles, and essays in newspapers, literary journals, and magazines. This is her third book of nonfiction; she also has two poetry books, a novel, and another novel soon to be published.
