Author Biography
Kara Richardson Whitely moves mountains. She has hiked Mount Kilimanjaro three times while weighing as much as 300 pounds to raise money for Global Alliance for Africa. Her most recent trek up Africa's highest peak was filmed for a documentary and the subject of her latest memoir Gorge. Kara, who is also a motivational public speaker, plus-size fitness advocate and professional content developer, has written for Self, Everyday with Rachael Ray and Runner's World magazines. She was recently featured on Oprah's Lifeclass, an Outside magazine 127 Defining Moments finalist and has been written about in Redbook and American Hiker magazine. She is also the author of Fat Woman on the Mountain and an American Hiking Society ambassador. Kara lives in Summit, N.J. with her husband, Chris, and two daughters.
