Author Biography
Dennis de Peiza is a Barbadian trade unionist of more than 25 years' experience. He has served in the offices of President, General Secretary and Public Relations Officer of the Barbados Union of Teachers, 3rd Vice President and trustee of the Caribbean Union of Teachers, and is the current General Secretary of the Congress of Trade Unions and Staff Association of Barbados. He is a qualified and trained teacher who has served 33 years in the teaching profession. Apart from spending most of his teaching career at the secondary school level, he also taught at the Barbados Community College in Barbados as an assistant tutor in History. His professional qualifications include the Erdiston Teacher's Training Certificate, awarded by the Erdiston Teachers' College (Barbados), and the certificate in Education Management and Administration, attained from the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Campus. His academic profile reflects that he holds a Bachelor of Arts (BA) Hons. Degree in History and Sociology from the University of the West Indies, and a Masters Degree (MA) in Public Administration, from the University of Baltimore, Maryland, USA. As a practising trade unionist he has been exposed to formal training, and has successfully completed courses of studies at The Trade Union Education Institute, Mona Campus, University of the West Indies, and at the National Labour College, Maryland, USA. He is known for his many articles and commentaries on Labour Relations and Education issues that have been published in the Barbados Union of Teachers' magazine, OUTLOOK, the Barbados Workers' Union publication, THE UNIONIST and the Caribbean Union of Teachers' magazine, CARICULTURE. In addition he has written several articles that have been published under the guest columns of the NATION and the BARBADOS ADVOCATE newspapers.
