by Bonnie Jane Hall (Author)
Earthships (Book 1) is a novel that presents a speculative science-based view of the world of climate change beginning in the year 2030 and taps into fears that we humans might eventually need to live below the surface of the earth to survive. The story begins on a train with eighteen-year-old Laurel Campbell and her mother, sister, and brothers leaving the 120-degree temperatures of Arizona for Rigby, Idaho, where Laurel had been born on her grandparent's farm. Laurel, who has high-functioning Aspergers, can be intense and deeply invested in her beliefs and commitments, which include saving as many people and animals as she can by creating Earthships, underground fortresses that can provide everything life needs from the earth, wind, rain, and sun. She will fight like hell to save her family and their animals as Earth becomes a ravaged planet.Along with her loving extended family, Laurel has formed an alliance with her father Forester and love interest Sage Halley, both soldiers, who understand her sometimes unusual behavior and believe in her premonitions of future events. Through several books in this series, the reader will feel the great use of sensory detail, family values, and respect for all life. This is not just a story about Laurel and her family, but a love letter to a planet she loves and wants to save through her story.
This novel should appeal to readers who like survival fiction books, climate fiction novels, futuristic fiction and adventure, dystopian, and apocalypse books.Author Biography
