Dialogues came naturally to Paul Valéry, providing the common ground between imagination and philosophy that he was always seeking. He called the dialogue "the most supple of the forms of expression," saying that "I found I was talking to myself in two voices, and began to write accordingly." Author Biography

Paul Valéry (1871-1945) was a French poet, essayist, and critic and a major figure in twentieth-century literature. In addition to his poetry, his best-known works include the novel Monsieur Teste and his posthumously published Notebooks.
