by Loretta a. Hawkins (Author)
"I think of the eyes that saw Jesus Christ hanging on a cross - the eyes that dragged Freddie Gray, and could not feel human loss." (Excerpt from White Eyes.) This poem is representative of the kind of poems one will experience in Dese Shoes and Other Poems. These poems are poetic affirmations of the indomitable nature of the human spirit, yearning and striving to exist as free beings. They cry out for justice, equality and freedom for all the peoples of the world.
