"Once upon a time there was an old man named Dr. Coppélius. He was a dollmaker and an alchemist. He made fancy dolls. He had a special doll named Coppélia. She looked like a beautiful, life-like girl. He put Coppélia in the window facing out on the town square. She looked like she was reading a book."

Coppélia is the story of a German dollmaker and alchemist, Dr. Coppélius, who fools his village into thinking that his greatest creation, a life-like doll, has actually comes to life! Misunderstanding follows as a young Swanilda finds her betrothed, Franz, more interested in the new "girl" rather than his true love. In the end Franz learns a valuable lesson about gratitude and appreciation and Dr. Coppelius must decide what is most important to him...dabbling in magic and potions or using his skills as a dollmaker!

The Rogue Swan Adventure Series is a series of children's books based on classical ballet fairytales and adapted and illustrated by immigrant kids. Our books contain original text and illustrations from our wonderfully talented child artists.
