The anthology, "Contemporary Fireside Stories", provides a fine mixture of writers-there are 'old', expert, veteran voices as well as 'new', budding voices, and of stories with varied subjects and themes, ranging from historical, inward focussed pieces on adoption and child-rearing experiences to sexual assault and its effects, romantic accounts, alcoholism, street life, witchcraft, and a host of other subjects. In a sense, this new crop of fiction blends personal experiences, social and cultural happenings with love that fashions some kind of bitter-sweet, happy-sad, swing as you read the stories. It equally blends multiple levels of narration each with their own unique style in a fascinating way to tell a story; mostly in the story-telling fashion.

Author Biography

Philip Foday Yamba Thulla was born in Lunsar, Sierra Leone. He holds a master's degree from Njala University in Sierra Leone. He has published a compilation of short stories, "Homecoming: Knowing My People and Other Stories" and co-authored a short novel entitled "The Chameleon Goes Home". He is presently a PhD student in African Folk Literature (The Temne people) and a lecturer in Literature at the Institute of Languages and Cultural Studies, Njala University, Sierra Leone. He has just completed a full-length fictional memoir entitled, "Saving the State House: the Confession of a Thug". Fatou Taqi nee Cole is the Director of Academic & Career Advisory & Counselling Services and the Students Complaints Commission at the University of Sierra Leone. She also co-ordinates the University ICT Team. She is a lecturer at the Department of Language Studies and the Institute for Gender Research & Documentation at Fourah Bay College, USL. Fatou is currently the President of the 50/50 Group (SL). She is passionate about women's empowerment and gender equity. She enjoys being a mother, travelling & networking.
