The listings were compiled by Julia Karla Gates of Martinsburg, West Virginia.
Author Biography
Julia Karla Gates is a native of Huntington, West Virginia and has lived in Martinsburg, West Virginia since 1976. She has dedicated her life to the preservation of history. She has always been very civic minded. As a young woman in Huntington, she was very active in the Westmoreland Baptist Church's building program. She has been a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) for 60 years, the United Daughters of the Confederacy (UDC) for 48 years and Eastern Star for 35 years. Her love of genealogy was a gift from her mother, who herself was an avid genealogist. After retirement, Julia became a volunteer at the Berkeley County Historical Society. There, she found a personal calling: To document a complete listing of the names and locations of all the brave soldiers that fought in the War Between the States, both Union and Confederate, that are buried in Berkeley and adjacent Counties.
