by Catherine Brigden (Author)
Saint Agnes was martyred in January of A.D. 304 under the persecution of Emperor Diocletian. She was twelve years old and a virgin. Her refusal to marry the son of a prefect set off a chain reaction throughout Roman society that caused them to rethink the persecution of Christians and paved the way for Christianity to become the official religion of the Roman Empire under Emperor Constantine.
