In Cold Creek, Texas 1880, a crowd gathered to witness a hanging. The man standing on the gallows with a hangman's noose around his neck, while unknown to everyone there, happens to be at the wrong place at the wrong time. Apparently, the sheriff needed someone to hang for the murder. The man in fact is a Texas Ranger who was sent to Cold Creek to investigate the killing of the town's only judge and find the person or persons responsible.
The judge was also the owner of a large cattle ranch just outside Cold Creek. He and his unmarried daughter live on the ranch. She knows that this stranger is not her father's killer and thus she saves him from being hanged.
The handsome Texas Ranger becomes acquainted with the daughter who had saved his life and eventually a romance slowly develops between the two of them. During the time he is working undercover in the town, while secretly being a Texas Ranger, he manages to get himself involved in several other nefarious activities going on in town which results in Bar brawls, robberies, cattle rustling, and gun fights. The stranger's true identity is not revealed till nearly the end of the story.
