Hinduism is the most ancient continuously practiced religion in the world. It has the most amount of sacred material than any other religion. Scripture is a religious document. It spells out the spiritual goal and the path to reach it.
The sacred Hindu scriptures are placed into three categories. Shruti (Śruti), Smriti (Smṛti), and a subsidiary category. All these scriptures are composed in the Sanskrit language.
Shruti scriptures are the Vedas which consist of the Samhita (Saṁhitā) parts of Rigveda (Ṛgveda), Yajurveda, Sāmaveda, and Atharvaveda, and the appendages of the Vedas, namely, Brahmana texts (Brāhmaṇa texts), Aranyaka texts (Āraṇyakas), and the Upanishad texts (Upaniṣad texts). Shruti scriptures are the most sacred Hindu scriptures.
