by Tagore Ramoutar (Author)
As a child I loved rocks and gems, I even had a stone polisher. I always wanted to learn more, however I could never find any good reference books that were written for children. I am now an adult and have two children who also are fascinated by rocks and gems. In (primary school) year three they both had to do projects on stones. Again finding good reference books was very difficult. This book is the book I wish I had as a child and the book that my children wanted when they were investigating rocks for school. I hope you enjoy it. The guide is designed for 8-14 year olds and covers over 30 gemstones and rocks. It has full colour photographs and descriptions plus a map of the UK showing where to find gemstones.
Author Biography
Tagore Ramoutar was born in Bristol in the 60s, and grew up in Middlesbrough (UK). A graduate of the University of Cambrdige, Tagore spent over 20 years in corporate world including over 16 years doing jobs that involved international travel. He is married and has two girls who are his inspiration for his children's. In 2010 Tagore left the corporate world to focus on his writing (and designing). He currently is writing two different types of books - children's books (a series of books by Eric and Rufus Children's Books) and a food guide (10 places to eat). The books are published by Longshot Ventures Ltd a publisher set up by Tagore. The children's books are inspired by Tagore's children, their cousins and their friends. The majority of the books are stories illustrated with photos of real activities, places and objects. The stories are light and fun but have facts and educational elements embedded. They are targeted at the three to seven year olds. His short stories are designed to make a child smile. Tagore's other focus is on 10 places to eat, a new concept in travel guides targeted at the business traveller and leisure traveller who want to explore the traditional dishes of the city they are visiting and learn something new. Designed as a coffee table guide book (but small enough to carry) for the discerning business and leisure traveller, high end hotels and as a corporate gift, the books are focused on traditional local eating experiences and feature full page photographs of the chosen restaurants and dishes as well as maps and background descriptions. Most guide books overwhelm with choice and it is difficult to make a decision. 10 places to eat guides are based on the premise that most visitors to a city, whether on business or leisure, rarely visit for more than a week, and therefore only need a few choices. It is especially relevant for those interested in exploring typical local food served in traditional settings. The recommendations have been visited and sampled by the author as a paying customer. Many of these restaurants have been visited many times and retain a firm place in the author's heart and memories.
