Author Biography
Lewis S. Blevins, Jr., M.D., born in 1961 in Havre de Grace, Maryland, considers himself a native of East Tennessee as he was raised in the Tri-Cities region. He currently resides in Nashville, Tennessee, where he practices medicine in the field of Endocrinology and Metabolism at The Vanderbilt University School of Medicine. Lewis is an artist who paints exclusively in oils on stretched canvas and linen covered boards to represent his interpretations of Irish and American Landscapes. He has painted in the Irish bog with Ray Elwood, a well-known plein air painter and watercolorist from Northern Ireland. He draws his inspiration from the works of James Humbert Craig and John Singer Sargent. Nashville artists Michael Shane Neal and Dawn Whitelaw have had a significant influence on his attitudes towards painting. He plays the Uilleann pipes (Irish Bagpipes). His preferred pipes are pitched in the key of C and were crafted by David Quinn and Benedict Koehler. Neillidh Mulligan, Kevin Rowsome, Benedict Koehler, and Patrick Hutchinson have had the greatest influences on his piping.
